Sara I used a wild card at Ancestry and here is what I found for Louis Walker: 1880 US Census for Mendota Village,Dakota County, Minesota: Walker, Louis, Age 34, Occup. Mittens,Moccasins, born MN, both parents born MN Walker, Fanny, Age 26, Wife, born MN,Both parents born MN Son- Alexander, age 4 son-Benjamin, age 2 __________________________________ Louis shows up in the same 1880 Census, at a later date, and he is listed with a bunch of Indians that are listed as Remnant Siouxs, in St. Paul, Ramsey,Minnesota, and they are all listing their occupation as "digging Ginseng". Apparently, he left his wife and kids in Mendota. I lost track of him after these 2 Censuses.

Okay, That means Louis was about 16 in 1862.
Blue Cloud was also in his late teens. I am starting to think Blue Cloud and Louis Walker are brothers or cousins. They were both in their teens in 1862.
Louis Walker was also with Taopis farmer band at the time of the war. Taopi swears in court that Louis Walker, he has known since he was a young man and he was always a good boy.
I think Blue Cloud got 1 year and Louis Walker was aqquitted..
We are getting closer to figuring out these group of Walkers.

In the 1884 Census, the Indian name for Joseph Walker is Mahpiyatodan and he was 20 years old, wwhich agrees with the baptismal certificate. Sometime between 1865 and 1864, his father and mother passed away. Unless they were buried in unmarked graves, neither of his parents is buried in Knox county. I suspect that Joseph may have left his wife and family in Santee, and moved to So. Dakota, because I found a census that shows a Jospeh Walker in SD married to a Nora Walker and they have 3 children. the ages are quire close.

It would also help if we knew the Indian names for John and Jacob Walker, as well as Louis Walker.
